The organizers of the Summer Olympic Games - 2016 in Rio de Janeiro showed reporters a new residential tower, in which about 11 000 athletes and 6000 coaches and other professionals from the world of sport will sleep, eat and exercise.
According to organizers, the complex, which can be called a city within a city, has become the biggest Olympic Village in the history of this competition. There are 31 Floor 17 etazhki, a huge dining room and the gym, post office, center of first aid and the bank. "It is here that the soul will open the Games", - said the spokesman of the organizing committee Mario Adrada.
The athletes are not required to reside in the Olympic Village, and certainly many of the world famous sports stars will eventually stop in other places outside the apartment complex. But the organizers have promised that the Olympic Village will be the protected object, since it will patrol the 85,000 police and soldiers. This is two times more than during the summer Olympic Games in London in 2012.
On the perimeter of the complex will be a double fence, and everyone who enters and leaves will pass inspection procedure as in the airport, including raying all introduced packages, bags and other luggage. "The idea is that once the athletes and their attendants fall into the protected area, they will not have to leave the village," - says site director Mario Cilento.
All the bedrooms are designed for two people: here two beds, each of which can be unfolded to a length of 2 to 3 m specifically for the toughest athletes. In addition, there is a folding textile wardrobes.
In the living room a few simple chairs and a clothes dryer. Most importantly - all the rooms are equipped with air conditioning and electrical appliances for mosquito control, intended to prevent the spread of the virus Zika.
Concerns about the safety of the athletes at the Olympic Games intensified when two Australian Paralympians have been victims of armed robbery. Yachtswoman-paralimpiyka Liesl Tesch and employee administration team Sarah Ross were attacked by two men, when riding a bicycle in a park in Rio de Janeiro at the weekend. One of the men had a gun, and women have lost their bicycles.
The cost of accommodation for the participants of the Olympics Cilento said that the deployment came at the same time functional and modest, that has now become a fundamental principle of the Olympic Games in Brazil, as the country was plunged into the deepest in decades, the economic crisis.
"This is the foundation. Where you do not have any bells and whistles, just the basic necessities, "- said Silent. Mayor of Rio de Janeiro Eduardo Paesh repeatedly stressed that very little money from the budget was spent on the Olympics project and many of the basic facilities built by private companies in exchange for municipal concessions.
For example, the Olympic Village was built by a consortium, which gives the complex in rent to the organizers at the time of the Olympics. In exchange for the construction of the City Hall complex freed the company from current local building regulations, allowing to build taller buildings than normal. Developers have long exhibited these apartments for sale, and buyers will be occupied immediately after the Olympics.
The authorities have refused to tell any of the financial details of the Olympic village, explaining that only construction companies are authorized to provide information about the cost of apartments in the complex on request. However, a spokesman for the Brazilian Olympic Committee acknowledged that amid crisis, sales fell short of expectations.
The consortium, which built the Olympic Village in Rio de Janeiro, after the Games will be called Ilha Pura ( "Clean Island"). It consists of the construction of the Brazilian market giants Carvalho Hosken and Odebrecht. The latter company - the key person involved in an extensive investigation of corruption in the highest circles of power, associated also with the state oil company Petrobras.
According to the investigation, corruption is so got used to the scheme of work, that it was even a special department in charge of bribery. Mayor of Rio de Janeiro insists that corruption did not affect the construction of Olympic facilities.
